Bristol based Testimony Films was formed in 1992 by producer, director and writer Steve Humphries. He was formerly a lecturer in history and sociology at the University of Essex and a producer at LWT: he was described by Broadcast magazine as “the king of oral history”.

Testimony has made more than one hundred network documentaries for national terrestrial broadcasters - BBC1, BBC2, ITV1, Channel 4 and Five, as well as for digital and worldwide networks -  History, National Geographic International, and Yesterday. The films are distinguished by ground breaking research and emotional power. They are often accompanied by books, co-authored by Humphries, who has more than twenty books to his name and is honorary vice president of the British Oral History Society.

The current core team are: Managing Director: Steve Humphries, Production Manager: Mike Humphries, Producer, Director and Editor: Nick Maddocks, Editor: Daniel de Waal, Assistant Producers: Lizi Cosslett, Clair Titley, Senior Researchers: Emily Sivyer and Pete Vance, and Researchers: Rosie Bristowe, Elle Carr-Archer, Ariadne Mitchell-Kotsakis, Devika Raman.

Testimony also has a strong relationship with a number of freelance staff currently including Harry Hook (Director), George Pagliero (Director) David Long (Development Producer), Richard van Emden (historical consultant and First World War specialist) and Andy Attenburrow (Director/Producer/Editor).

In addition Testimony provides opportunities for young talent trying to break into the industry supporting South West Screen’s new entrants scheme and local university work experience placements.
